| Advanced Cancer-Fighting Technology Offers Hope at MIMA Cancer Center |
| TRILOGY a trusted leader in radiation therapy technology |
|
Radiation therapy is effective against many forms of cancer. Nearly two-thirds of all cancer patients receive radiation therapy at some point during their treatment, and with modern technology such as the Trilogy by Varian Medical Systems, the physicians at MIMA Cancer Center can customize treatment for every patient.

|
The Trilogy® accelerator is a versatile and powerful medical image-guided radiation therapy machine, capable of targeting tumors with sub-millimeter accuracy while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
Varian Medical Systems is at the forefront of major advances in the field of radiation therapy. Speed, precision, and personalization are at the heart of Varian's technology for Dynamic Targeting® image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), which utilizes a spectrum of imaging and motion management tools to pinpoint and target tumors. This novel approach enables doctors to see, measure, track, and treat cancerous tumors with unprecedented precision ? even when they move.
Varian has been bringing meaningful cancer fighting technologies, like IGRT, since 1954. Building on their experience with thousands of physicians and millions of patients, they have earned a reputation for making continuous progress in treating cancer. In fact, today, most leading clinics in America use Varian products to treat more than 100,000 patients every day.

| RapidArc Next Generation Radiation Therapy Comes to MIMA Cancer Center |
 |
MIMA Cancer Center will add to its cutting-edge treatment technology with RapidArc -- a major advance this year from Varian Medical Systems. RapidArc will improve the conformity of the radiation dose and at the same time shorten treatment times. Plus, RapidArc will achieve a physician's treatment objectives better than today's best IMRT techniques two to eight times faster than the fastest dynamic treatments can be delivered today.
RapidArc is different because it delivers the radiation dose in one whole volume rather than layering it slice by slice over a period of time. Varian?s technology for image-guided radiation therapy was technically ahead to begin with, and now by adding efficient ?arc? therapy that can be delivered in multiple planes (i.e. volumetrically), patients can benefit from both 3D treatment technology and faster, more precise treatment. The result is something that makes a practical difference to patient care and to the ability of physicians at MIMA Cancer Center to offer whatever is best for each for patients.

While the tumor or lesion receives the full dose of radiation, the surrounding healthy tissue only receives a small percentage of the radiation, which reduces potential damage to surrounding tissues. Novalis Tx was first implemented almost a decade ago for the treatment of brain tumors or lesions, where pinpoint precision is required to focus radiation treatment on tumors or lesions close to critical structures. Now, experts are taking advantage of the precision of Novalis Tx to increase the range of a patient?s available treatment options and treat other areas of the body, such as the lung, liver, prostate and spine.
Why is fast treatment important? There are two reasons why short treatment times can be important: treatment accuracy and patient comfort. The length of treatments with some devices can be extreme, lasting an hour or more, during which the patient must lie as still as possible. Prolonged treatment times can make the entire process even more stressful, and some physicians recommend practicing meditation during the procedure or even prescribe a sedative. Reducing the treatment time also minimizes the time where the patient may make small movements that can affect the overall accuracy of the treatment.
Only Novalis Tx offers the widest spectrum of modalities in the industry, from circular arc for very small spherical lesions and functional radiosurgery, to conformal beam, dynamic arc and intensity modulated radiosurgery (IMRS), Novalis Tx allows the best mix of all these modalities to perfectly sculpt the dose to the exact shape of the lesion and protect vital risk organs at the same time. In comparison, other systems offer a limited treatment approach and rely simply on circular beams, which often gives uneven coverage over the tumor and has an increased chance of negatively affecting nearby healthy tissue.
