What is SBRT?

Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) is a treatment method to deliver a prescribed, ablative dose of radiation to a target in the body with a high degree of precision. Treatment is painless and usually over 2-5 fractions and generally completed in a week. Advantages over conventional radiotherapy include the ability to irradiate smaller normal tissue volume because of the more rapid dose fall-off. As a result, side effects are rare. Most treatments are completed in 20 minutes or less. Malignancies commonly treated with this modality include primary lung cancers, cancers that have metastasized to the lung, liver, or other organs and “radioresistant” tumors. We have entertained guests from all over the world to showcase the equipment and demonstrate how these techniques can be used to treat patients and improve outcomes.
